Well Kept Waringstown Sunflower Competition

Details
Category: News
Published: 27 September 2024

Congratulations to all the boys and girls of Waringstown Primary school for taking part in the Sunflower competition. Well Kept Waringstown Association, who ran the competition were so impressed by all the children’s sunflowers and found it very difficult to pick the prize winners. We had many children who received a goody bag for their amazing sunflowers. However, we had three children who were given a first, second and third prize. Tarryn Ardis came third, with a sunflower height of 196cm, in second place was Adam Coffey, with a height of 202.5cm and finally our first place prize winner was given to Ethan Coffey, whose sunflower measured a staggering 217cm. We would like to thank Well Kept Waringstown Association for kindly donating the wonderful prizes, which were given to each of the prize winners. Finally, well done to all the boys and girls who took part.

The Primary Three children headed to Greenmount for an autumn walk experience. We arrived with the rain pouring but left with the sun shining. The children had fun looking at all the different autumn leaves and their seeds. They also heard about animals which hibernate and those who gather and store food. We had a great day exploring the wonderful grounds of Greenmount. View images below.

We were delighted to be informed that our school were given the prize of Young Writers Award of Excellence.

Last year all children in Primary 5 and Primary 6 took part in a Creative Writing Competition writing a Crazy Creatures Saga. All pupils that entered were given the opportunity to have their work published in a book. This book can be found in our school library where all pupils in school will be able to read the Crazy Creatures Sagas. A number of parents also availed of the opportunity to purchase their own copies of the book as well.

We have just received word that our school has now won the overall prize for Young Writers Award of Excellence and received a beautiful glass trophy and £100 gift voucher for National Books.

Thank you and congratulations to all the children who took part! We are very proud of YOU! The voucher will be invested in providing more books for the school and encouraging children in their love of reading and writing.

The school was delighted to receive a cheque from the Lurgan Credit Union this week thanks to your savings accounts.  The children have clearly been saving over the past months and the school will direct the £300 cheque towards the purchase of new iPads and technology in school.

We are currently upgrading our iPads and seeking to refresh the old technology which as you can imagine goes out of date very quickly!

Thank you for supporting the Credit Union Savings scheme.
