Titanic Visit Primary 7

Published: 11 March 2024

TITANIC VISIT As part of our WAU topic on the Titanic both p7 classes spent a very interesting day visiting the Titanic exhibition in Belfast. We had the pleasure of being taken through the Titanic experience by an excellent tour guide who provided the children with many fascinating facts. The tour took us through nine galleries, telling the story of RMS Titanic, from her design in Belfast in the early 1900s, through her construction and launch, to her famous maiden voyage and tragic end. The galleries are innovative and interactive with many features including diving to the depth of the ocean to explore where RMS Titanic now rests. The Titanic story is told at Titanic Belfast in a fresh and insightful way. Many of the galleries capture the excitement of launch day, as well as transporting us from four embarkation ports, Belfast, Southampton, Cherbourg and Queenstown (now known as Cobh) to Titanic’s deck promenade. The children were not only able to see and hear the ocean and feel the ships engines rumbling on board at the Palm Court Café but could also meet Fredrick Dent Ray, a dining room steward and survivor. The Maiden Voyage gallery includes an original first class luncheon menu dated April 14, 1912, as well as the last letter ever to be written on board the Titanic by Eva Harte. The visit concluded with a chance to lunch on the Nomadic and have a tour of this amazing restored Tender Boat.

Details

Published: 11 March 2024

On Monday 4th March four of our P7 children travelled to the Glenavon Hotel (Cookstown) to represent Waringstown Primary School at the Road Safe NI Charity Quiz finals. This is the first time we've entered a team into this competition and in January our four were the tops of the heats in Armagh/Craigavon.

Although we didn't win the finals, we are so proud of how the children represented the school and themselves.

A huge thankyou to Mrs Erskine and Mrs Humphreys who prepared the team so well, and also to Mr Gault, Mrs Peacocke and Mrs Humprheys for travelling with the team to the finals.
