A Treat For The Gardening Club

Once again, great fun was had by the Gardening Club members when we visited the Nursery owned by Mr and Mrs Geddis.  We were able to see their preparations for the new season and hear how this busy nursery is managed at this time of the year.

Shamrock growing is in full swing and we were shown the work that is required to have these plants ready for St Patrick's Day.  The club members have been challenged to care for their own shamrock plant and have this ready for a competition in March.  The children were amazed by the large glasshouses that need maintained both to withstand winter conditions and also to prepare for the growing season in the spring.

The visit finished with a welcome hot chocolate and treats provided by Mrs Geddis.  Needless to say, the children are very keen to repeat the visit later in the year to see the Nursery in full production.

A huge thanks to the parents who provided transportation and also to the Geddis family for their great welcome and tour!

The Primary Seven Gardening Club have started off the school year with a great team of members who have already planted tubs and flower beds in the school grounds.

This week for Christmas they have planted and designed Christmas pots to give as presents or to keep themselves.

The Art session yesterday was busy but good fun was had by all!

This club is open to anyone in Primary Seven and meets usually on a Thursday between 3.00 and 4.00pm.

(Weather permitting!)

The Waringstown Primary School Gardening Club was initially started as an extra-curricular activity to encourage children to stay after school who were not involved in choir or sporting clubs in school.

At present it consists of any Primary 7 pupil who wishes to enjoy a stress free afternoon, out in the open air, and who are eager to participate in practical tasks.

Meet the team!

Over the last few years our activities have expanded from gardening to include the care of our school environment. On a seasonal basis, we plant bulbs and shrubs in the school grounds, are responsible for the planting of our own small garden area and have planted vegetables in the summer term. We have requested compost bins from Craigavon Borough Council and use these regularly to recycle our garden waste.
