Today was a very exciting and long anticipated day for all the staff and children. Today was the Launch of the new iPads!
Every class in school was timetabled to come into the assembly hall where Mr Somerville and Mrs Williamson had set up the iPads for the day's activities. All the children got a chance to work on the iPads using an app called Book Creator. This is a super app, where the children can make their own books, using photos and text. All the children came in well prepared to write about something they were proud of, right from Primary One up to Primary Seven. Many trophies, certificates, photos etc. were brought in and the children had a super time writing about their achievements.
The day was a huge success, largely due to the wonderful "buddy" work which went on during the day. This was where the older children (P5-7) were paired with the younger classes to help them create their pages in the book. All the older children were brilliant buddies and really helped the younger children get the most out of their sessions.
The day was topped off by the Arrival of Mr Kennedy, who was there to present the iPad he had donated to the school! Local MLA Jo-Anne Dobson also arrived to congratulate the school on the fantastic fundraising achievement that had gone into acquiring this superb resource.
We are of course indebted to all, children, parents, staff and friends of Waringstown Primary School who did so much to raise the funds for this vital resource through our i-Challenge WPS initiative. Thank you for making this all possible.
All in all this was a superb day, which the children really enjoyed.

As part of the P6 Numeracy topic of Area and Perimeter the P6s carried out some practical work measuring various objects and areas in the school.
They were posed the challenge of working out which was the largest corridor in school, the Mall or the KS2 corridor. The classes had to predict which they thought was the longest. 15 children in the class thought the Mall was longer, 7 thought the KS2 corridor was longer and 2 were not sure.
The children then worked in groups to work out which was the correct prediction using trundle wheels.
It turns out the KS2 corridor is the longest corridor in school... exact mesurements to be confirmed tomorrow!
The children all had to work out the lenght and width of their class room and their desks.
It was a fun activity and the children really enjoyed answeing thier challenge.
