School Fete
Our newly rebranded School Crest sums up everything to do with the school Summer Fete which took place on Friday 19 June. THANK YOU to all of our sponsors, donors and volunteers who helped in such a practical way!
Working, playing and succeeding TOGETHER!
Indeed, the whole Waringstown Primary School community really did come together on Friday evening. The much heralded return of the fete was a huge success and a most enjoyable occasion. It was a delight to see all ages mingling in the grounds and enjoying the feast of activities arranged by the staff and PTA.
We must say a huge and sincere thank youto all our sponsors who donated many gifts to the auction and raffle and also to the many parents who helped to man a stall. There were parents who stayed behind too to help with the clear up and this was much appreciated. It meant that the school opened on Monday in a very fine state thanks to the much appreciated work on Friday evening! I am delighted to be able to inform you that the grand total of
£6,100
was raised for school funds. This money is being set aside to help with the purchase of a projector in the Nursery, develop the outdoor play facilities in the Foundation Playground, the resourcing of reading materials and the purchase of Maths equipment. Your generosity will make a HUGEdifference in the life of ALLthe children in Waringstown Primary School.

Excitement is certainly mounting in school as we anticipate that Friday feeling. We have been simply overwhelmed by your generosity to the raffle and auction and by your offers of support to help.
Please be aware that the school grounds and Car Park will not be open to cars tomorrow evening but the Church of Ireland have granted access to their parking facilities at the church which should help alleviate the traffic in the village.

The Kennedy Cup, the Mid-Ulster Schools' F.A. Primary Girls' football tournament, was hosted on our muga for a second year in a row. Our team, made up of a squad of twelve Year 7 girls went into the tournament hoping to enjoy a bit of football. What was to come was an afternoon of great football, with superb team performance from the whole squad.
We started off playing Ben Madigan who had travelled from Belfast. This game saw a nervous start for us, and we drew 0-0. Our second opponent was Poyntzpass Blue, who we managed to beat 1-0. In the group stages we still had our third game to play, in which we were up against a strong Edenderry team. Thankfully, we managed to hold them to another 0-0 draw.
When points were totalled up, we were positioned second in the group stages, which meant we were through to the Semi-finals. At this point we ran out againt Poyntzpass Pink. This was a long, hard fought game, which initially ended 0-0 and meant that we had to play 'golden goal,' where it was three girls verses three. The three girls who played on behalf of the Waringstown PS team were fantastic, and managed to get that golden goal putting us through to the final!
In the final we faced Millington. Another long and hard game persued, only to see it end 0-0 which meant another 'golden goal' decider. Thankfully, our girls just had enough left in their engine rooms to get that extra metre and score the 'golden goal,' which won us the tournament!
Well done girls!
Mr Gault and Mrs Matthews were absolutely delighted with the perofmance and attitude of all our squad, who all played so well, and who always went straight over to their opponents and shock their hands after each game.
It was also lovely to see Mr Kennedy back at Waringstown PS, and have him present our girls with the Kennedy Cup for a second year running.
A huge thankyou to all the support, both parents and pupils.

Ulster Hockey - Northern Ireland Primary School Finals
On Wednesday 29th April seven Primary six girls were chosen to represent our school in the Northern Ireland Finals, played at Lisnagarvey.
In their first match against Abbey, Waringtown was the stronger of the two teams however were unfortunate not to score but played exceptionally well as a team.
They played a strong side next, Harmony Hill. Waringstown started well however Harmony Hill got two goals in quick succession. We came back strong but just couldn’t manage to get a goal in past their strong defence.
The third match was against Cooley where the girls provided a super whole team display of skill, with excellent involvement from the full squad. Both goals scored in this game by Katie.
In their match against Killinchy the girls fought right to the end with end to end action for the whole match. Unfortunately a well-earned goal by Katie was disallowed early on in the game however Killinchy managed to net a goal in the last minutes.
The final match in the section was against Strandtown. Another game of end to end action. Waringstown scored first with a goal from Katie Sandford, great defending from Lottie Williamson and Lily-May as well as super saves by Joy-Ann. The game then settled at 1-1 with Waringstown again playing well together.
In the plate, Waringstown’s first game was against Wallace Prep. Waringstown had all the play with numerous shots on target from Rebekah and Katie but with a very strong goalkeeper in the opposition this was made extremely difficult. There was constant pressure for the whole of the game with the result ending in a scoreless draw.
The second and final match was played against Cookstown, who were a strong side and managed to score two breakaway goals which were quickly answered by a well-fought goal by Katie in the last minute of the game.
The girls ALL played fantastically well, showing great team work and dedication in every game, WELL DONE!!!
