Undefeated at Friends' Rugby Blitz

Details
Category: Rugby
Published: 07 April 2017

On Wednesday 05 April our rugby team travelled up to their first rugby tournament of the season. Friends' School in Lisburn hosted nine teams altogether, and our boys got to play against four other schools. After a nervy start in their first game, the boys began to show their confidence and all played brilliantly. The won every game even though they were against some strong opposition. Mr Gault and Mr Somerville were absolutely delighted at how the boys played, but also at how they represented Waringstown Primary School with their manners and gratitude. After every game they all went to their opposition and thanked them for the game.

We would like to thank the 'fans' who came to support and to provide lifts. Most importantly we must thank Mr Humphries and Mr Johns for coming up to prepare the boys on numerous Tuesday afternoons (and it was a delight to see two of our players pull off a switch move taught to them by Mr Humphries to score a fantastic try in the last game!)

Victorious at Campbell College Rugby Tournament

This morning our rugby team travelled by convoy up to the beautiful grounds of Campbell College, Belfast, as we were invited to play in their rugby tournament.

When we arrived the boys enjoyed a packed lunch and then made their way over to 'pitch 6,' which was to be our base for the afternoon. We played our first game at 1.50pm against a physically strong Greenisland Primary School. Their team ran hard at us and got the first try, although this seemed to help our players bond and we came back very strong. All of our squad players got a run in the game, making crucial tackles and having some big runs! We were delighted to end this game with a victory!

Without any rest time, we were straight into the next game at 2.10pm, this time against Ben Madigan. Our players, a little more confident now, started to play some quick paced rugby. Powerful running from our P7s, followed up with quick hands and great speed from our P6s saw us run in numerous tries! A second victory.

Thankfully we had time to rest before our last game, which wasn't until 2.30pm, against Sullivan Prep. Our rest served us well, as we started very strong once again scoring some quick tries. It was clear that our boys were gelling well together, keeping the ball alive throughout the game, ensuring we finished strong.

The boys were all treated to a burger provided by Campbell College at the end of the tournament, along with T-shirts and certificates (which will be presented in assembly).

Mr Somerville and Mr Gault were delighted with the performance, both on and off the pitch. Our boys shock hands with all their opponents and showed great manners to the organisers. Well done boys.

A huge thankyou must be given to Campbell College for hosting this event, and also to our fabulous parent supporters who helped with lifts and much needed 'cheering!' You're all part of the Waringstown Team....thankyou

Rugby Tournament at Dromore RFC

Since returning to school after Easter, the school rugby team has been practicing very hard on Tuesday afternoons.  Yesterday, some of that hard work paid off when the team went to play a tournament at Dromore RFC.  It was a round robin style tournament, with the boys getting to play against four other schools.  As with all mini rugby tournaments at this level, the matches are played for the enjoyment of the game,  no scores are kept and no prizes are given out.

With this in mind, the boys played an excellent brand of rugby, with both the forwards and the backs scoring some fantastic tries.  We had very competitive games against Friends, Dromore Central, Downshire and Moyallen.  All the boys played their hearts out and we can be very proud of their performance on the day.
