On Thursday 20th April, our P6 and 7 rugby boys played against Spa Primary School and Meadow Bridge Primary School. With sun was shining, the boys played some fast-flowing rugby. It was great to have some players who have never played competitive rugby before playing for our Waringstown PS Rugby Team. Many thanks to the parents who helped with transport to and from Meadow Bridge PS.

On Thursday 30 March a squad of twelve travelled to Banbridge R.F.C. to represent the school in the West Down Rugby Qualifier. The team came up against Friend's Prep, Dromore Central PS, Meadowbridge PS and Wallace Prep and played some fantastic rugby. We were delighted to have some boys who have never played in a rugby match represent us today and be supported and encouraged by their team mates. A great start to our rugby season.

Last Friday our rugby team travelled to Campbell College for their 2019 Mini Rugby Festival.
The boys played Carrickmannon PS in their first game and came away victors scoring a few nice tries. Their next opponent was Moneyrea PS, a bigger team who were very strong. Our team played well together and grew into the game but unfortunately were defeated. The last game was against Friend's Prep, and at this point the boys were really starting to gel and put in a perfect performance to win the game.
The team this year was a mixture of experienced rugby boys and boys who have never played rugby before. We were delighted to see how well they played together and worked on creating a true team spirit.
A huge thankyou must be given to the Rev Hawthorne who helped with the after schools rugby and to prepare the team for this tournament. Thanks also go to the parents who came along to cheer the boys on and who provided lifts.
We also want to thank Campbell College for their hospitality, providing burgers, drinks and a T-shirt to all players.
Well done to all involved.

Today the Rugby Team travelled up to Ulster's home of rugby, the Kingspan Stadium, to compete in the Kingspan Mini Rugby Festival. It was a very wet afternoon, although the boys all had fun and played well. They enjoyed getting the opportunity to run out onto the pitch, and also meet some of the Ulster players.
Thank you to all those parents who not only taxied us to and from the Stadium, but for their continued support. It was great to hear them cheering from the stands.

Yesterday afternoon Mr Gault and Mr Somerville had the privilege of taking the P6&7 rugby team to the North Down tournament at Banbridge Rugby Football Club. During the tournament, the team played 4 games against some very strong rugby schools. The boys played fantastic rugby and managed to impress coaches, referees and the tournament organisers alike with their excellent brand of passing and running rugby.
The boys have gelled really well as a team over the past year and are able to compete strongly against any opposition.
Mr Gault and Mr Somerville were very proud of the boys for how the played and for the fantastic way in which they represented our school.
A huge thanks must go to Mr Humphreys and Mr Johns who helped to coach the boys on the day and who have been a vital part of the squads development over the past two years. Also a huge thank you to all the parents who provided lifts to and from the tournament.
