On Monday our Primary 4 pupils went outside to continue their current maths topic of symmetry. Some children worked in groups, some in pairs and others by themselves, to create a symmetrical picture on the ground of whatever they wanted. Afterwards, the children had opportunities within the classroom to look at all the pictures (from the photogtraphs taken) and discuss just how symmetrical they were.
This was a great opportunity to extend our Primary 4 pupils' knowledge of symmetry.

Today saw the start of Forest School for our Primary 4 pupils. We went outside to our Forest School 'classrooms' and the children, in groups, created a polar scene to conclude their 'Amazing Blue Planet' topic. Some of the groups created Polar Animals whereas others created polar scenery. The children loved working with their hands and the freedom that the outdoors gave us.

This week's Forest School session was all about princesses, dragons, princes and monsters. Pupils got to choose if they worked in groups or by themselves and had to create a favourite 'character.' They could choose one from memory or create their own. The Pupils had to use a range of thinking skills and personal capabilities throughout this task.
Over the last number of weeks some of the pupils have noticed that a robin has been watching us as we are out doing our forest school sessions. We got a few 'snaps' of him or her also.

This week in Forest School the P4s were learning about area. Each pupil was given a leaf and had to decide on something to cover it's surface with. After some discussion, the pupils were then given cubes (standard unit) to make the measuring of the leaf's surface area easier.
The next challenge was for the children to cover the surface of a larger space with items they found around them. Some groups then used string or sticks to create their own squares for counting.
