As we begin a new year, many families have welcomed new devices into their homes after Christmas; phones, tablets, gaming consoles and other technology that can access the internet. While these tools offer great opportunities for learning and fun, they also bring risks if not used safely.
At Waringstown Primary School, we work diligently every day to ensure our pupils are protected and learn how to use the internet responsibly. However online safety starts at home too. Parents play a vital role in guiding children and setting boundaries.
Why Talk About Online Safety?
Children aged 4–11 are curious and eager to explore. Having open conversations about what they do online helps them feel supported and confident to ask for help if something goes wrong.
Start with simple questions:
- What apps or games do they enjoy most?
- Do they know what to do if someone they don’t know messages them?
- How can they make sure their time online is safe and fun?
Three Steps for Safer Internet Use:
-
Set Parental Controls
Use built-in tools on devices and apps to block inappropriate content and manage screen time.

We had a wonderful morning with the tutors from the EA Music service. We learned about the different instruments in the orchestra and sang lots of Christmas songs. Some of the children helped with the percussion and Mr Gault even had a go at conducting! A fun-filled morning that was enjoyed by all the children and staff. A huge thank you to the EA Music service. Merry Christmas!

This week, our School Carol Services filled Holy Trinity Church of Ireland, Waringstown with joy and community spirit. Across three services, an incredible 1,400 people joined us to celebrate the Christmas Story which was told in word and song.
We are deeply grateful to Rev M Lennox and the Select Vestry for welcoming us into the beautiful historic parish church and to our amazing children for their superb performances.
All collections will be donated to The Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. The EduSpot system remains open for additional contributions. The final figure will be shared in our December Newsletter.
Thank you for your unwavering support, it truly keeps our school at the heart of the village!

We have had a busy term in SU this year. We learned about the 10 lepers and Paul and Silas in prison. We thought about Jesus being the light of the world at the end of October and entered into the Christmas story in November.
Rev. Matthew from Holy Trinity taught us the story of Elizabeth and Zachariah and David, Clifford and Barbara from Waringstown Presbyterian taught the story of Gabriel visiting Mary.
We used ipads and the Puppetpals app to retell the Christmas story in groups and played fun nativity games! We finished off the term with some popcorn and the Christmas story movie.
A huge thank you to Rev. Matthew from Holy Trinity and David, Barbara and Clifford from Waringstown Presbyterian church for taking the time to teach the children and share God’s Word with them. They really enjoyed the games and we look forward to you coming again!
What a blessed term!
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

The festive season is in full swing at our school and we’re delighted to announce the return of our Christmas Post service! This year, our fantastic Primary 7 pupils are taking the lead in sorting and delivering all the school’s Christmas cards. Adding an extra sprinkle of Christmas magic, our enthusiastic Primary 1 helpers have joined the team to assist with deliveries. It’s wonderful to see pupils working together across year groups to make this tradition special for everyone.
We kindly ask for donations, which will go towards supporting The Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, a cause close to our hearts. Every contribution, big or small, will help make a difference for children and families who need it most.
Thank you for your generosity and for helping us spread joy both in school and beyond.
