Our hockey season has got off to a promising start with the ‘A’ team playing Seagoe at home.

The girls started the match with great confidence scoring three goals before half time. Katie Sandford, Lily-May Hall and Rebekah Evans all managed to score.

Seagoe came back fighting in the second half, with a few attempts at the goal. Well done to Joy-Ann Savage who saved three brilliant shots on goal.

All the girls gave 100% in their match and we look forward to the next few weeks with more matches for both ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams.

The ‘A team’ headed into Lurgan Junior High School to play in the Northern Ireland Qualifiers.

The team’s first match was against Maralin, who had put them out of the Mid Ulster Tournament. The girls played fantastically and beat them 2-0. Hannah Spence and Eva Corr scoring the goals.  Their next match was against Edenderry Banbridge. They beat them 5-0. Katie Sandford scored 3 and Eva Corr scored 2.

The final match in their section was against Seagoe. It was a hard fought game which ended in a 1-1 draw. Leah Heaney scored. The team finished top in their section!

In the semi–finals they played magnificently against Millington and came away with a 1-0 win. Leah Heaney scored.  Armstrong were their opponents in the final. The girls played with every last ounce of energy but Armstrong scored in the last 2 minutes.

The girls came away with silver medals and an opportunity to play in the NI finals to represent their district. An amazing performance by all the girls who played. Very well done!

WPS Girls Play in Mid–Ulster Hockey Tournament

The girls ‘A’ team travelled to Cookstown on Tuesday to play in the Mid–Ulster Tournament.

Waringstown were drawn in a tough section where they had to play Kings Park, Armstrong and Maralin.  In their first match against Armstrong the girls fought bravely and Leah Heaney managed to score a goal to make it a one all draw.  They played Kings Park next and beat them one nil, Leah again, the goal scorer.

The final match in the section was against Maralin. The girls were unfortunate not to score a few goals but the Maralin defence was superb and denied Waringstown their chance. In the last minute of the game Maralin made a break and scored.  Waringstown responded in the last ten seconds, when Hannah Spence took a shot from a distance and scored! Unfortunately, she was just outside the area for shooting and the goal was disallowed.

The girls played magnificently and were real ambassadors for our school. Congratulations to Maralin who went on to win the tournament and share the shield with Edenderry.
