The girls ‘A’ team travelled to Cookstown on Tuesday to play in the Mid–Ulster Tournament.

Waringstown were drawn in a tough section where they had to play Kings Park, Armstrong and Maralin.  In their first match against Armstrong the girls fought bravely and Leah Heaney managed to score a goal to make it a one all draw.  They played Kings Park next and beat them one nil, Leah again, the goal scorer.

The final match in the section was against Maralin. The girls were unfortunate not to score a few goals but the Maralin defence was superb and denied Waringstown their chance. In the last minute of the game Maralin made a break and scored.  Waringstown responded in the last ten seconds, when Hannah Spence took a shot from a distance and scored! Unfortunately, she was just outside the area for shooting and the goal was disallowed.

The girls played magnificently and were real ambassadors for our school. Congratulations to Maralin who went on to win the tournament and share the shield with Edenderry.
