Primary 7 Mr McCambley have concluded their detailed study of Japan by painting in the style of Hokusai. The famous series of wood block paintings depicts a great wave with Mt Fuji in the distance. Primary 7 worked within a restricted palette of orange, white and blue to recreate their own scene of a great wave of the coast of Kanagawa. Well done P7!
The Great Wave off Kanagawa (??????)
"Under a Wave off Kanagawa" also known as The Great Wave or simply The Wave, is a woodblock print by the Japanese artist Hokusai. It was published sometime between 1830 and 1833 as the first in Hokusai's series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji and is his most famous work.
This particular woodblock is one of the most recognized works of Japanese art in the world. It depicts an enormous wave threatening boats near the area of Kanagawa. While sometimes assumed to be a tsunami, the wave is, as the picture's title notes, more likely to be a large okinami – literally "wave of the open sea." As in all the prints in the series, it depicts the area around Mount Fuji under particular conditions, and the mountain itself appears in the background.

Primary 7 are enjoying their detailed study of Japan. The children have painted an Arita plate in its characteristic blue glaze on white background. Arita ware gets its name from the tiny village of Arita in Japan where the distinctive style was created. It's seen as a forerunner of Chinese Willow pattern. The completed display certainly looks great and the children enjoyed designing and painting their plates although it must be said a few had to wash off the first attempt and try again!

Primary 7 Mr McCambley's class have quite literally been going potty as Mothers' Day approached. They painted and decorated terracotta pots especially for mum on this very special day plus added a lovely primula flower just to earn extra brownie points!
As the sign says 'Butter wouldn't melt' they're all soooooo good all the year through!

Primary Seven celebrated World Book Day in great style today!
In addition to our usual class discussions about books in our guided groups and around the class as a whole, we decided to bring in to school our favourite book and show this to the class. We then heard everyone’s reasons why they enjoyed reading their chosen novel and a lively debate ensued about other books written by the many authors discussed.
The authors favoured by the class were – Anthony Horowitz, Jacqueline Wilson, Helen Dunmore, J.R.R. Tolkien, Eoin Colfer and J. Kinney.
Hopefully, the seeds sown, will take root in the children expanding their reading to include a selection of different authors.
