On Monday 23rd February both P6 classes were treated to a Fairtrade talk and discussion by Nicky and Mandy from Sainsbury's Craigavon.
The classes found out that Sainsbury's are leading the way with regards Fairtrade and in 2007 became the first supermarket in the UK to convert thier entire banana range to 100% Fairtrade.
Mandy and Nicky left lots of Fairtrade products for the children to sample and a competition to be completed by each child.
Thank you Mandy and Nicky for the brilliant talk and for all the treats.

As part of the P6 Numeracy topic of Area and Perimeter the P6s carried out some practical work measuring various objects and areas in the school.
They were posed the challenge of working out which was the largest corridor in school, the Mall or the KS2 corridor. The classes had to predict which they thought was the longest. 15 children in the class thought the Mall was longer, 7 thought the KS2 corridor was longer and 2 were not sure.
The children then worked in groups to work out which was the correct prediction using trundle wheels.
It turns out the KS2 corridor is the longest corridor in school... exact mesurements to be confirmed tomorrow!
The children all had to work out the length and width of their classroom and their desks.
It was a fun activity and the children really enjoyed answering the challenge.

This morning in Assembly, Primary 6S told us the story of a man called Johnny Appleseed , an American folk hero who was really called John Chapman.
The assembly was all about how Johny used the things he had, apple seeds, to help others who were in need by planting lots of apple trees all accross America.
As the assembly was all about apples P6 had a second message about healthy eating.
We watched an edited version of the following video clip:

The whole story was tied together with the story in the Bible from Matthew 25:35-40 where Jesus tells us that whatever we do to the least we do to Him.
Primary 6 did a great job of presenting this to the school and Mr Somerville was very proud of all the hard work they put in this week.
Below are some photos from the performance.
