P4 travelled on two buses to Palace Stables in Armagh to be treated to a wonderful, informative day about World War 2. When we arrived we had a short break and then were split into our classes and went to different activities.

One of the activities was to go into a dated classroom and create our identity cards and gas mask labels, which was great fun. The children loved sitting at the old fashioned tables (some even asked could we get them back at Waringstown Primary School).

In another activity we saw lots of war memorabilia including gas masks (adults and babies), spam, war effort advertising, posters and newspaper clippings. We heard all about rationing, Anderson and Morrison shelters, and evacuation.

We also met Mr Smyth, an Evacuation Officer. He told us why Belfast was targeted by the German pilots. He spoke to us about why we were evacuated to Armagh. He also took us to an air-raid shelter deep underground.

GI Colonel Shepherd spent time with us, telling us about his career in the army,. He took us through a few army drills and taught us how to crack codes!

We all thoroughly enjoyed our day at Palace Stables.
