The girls' football team from Waringstown certainly have smiles all around this morning after bringing home the Kennedy Cup! On Monday 18th June 15 teams from all over Northern Ireland took part in the annual Kennedy Cup. Waringstown were hoping to make it 4 wins out of 5 but with so many team it was a difficult "ask" for our girls.

Nonetheless, they set to their task straight away and won a very competitive group including Hart, Friends (Lisburn), Poyntzpass and Carrick. The girls progressed to the quarter finals where a resolute Orchard Primary School held out until Golden Goal finally separated the teams.

The semi-final against Abercorn Primary School was a fiercely contested match but a goal early on settled the nerves and Waringstown had made the final once again.

Kings Park Primary School, who had a very strong team were awaiting the girls in the final, but a well worked move and shot, which was handled on the line gave Waringstown a penalty which was clinically dispatched by our captain. This goal proved vital and the Kennedy Cup returned home to our trophy cabinet where it will remain for a year.

Congratulations to all of our girls who played some wonderful football along the way. Mr Brown, Mr Mitchell and Mr Gault were so very proud of this squad of ten players, while Mr McCambley looked on from the side lines willing the girls to success!

Well done girls!
