The girls' football team travelled over to South Lakes Leisure Centre for the IFA run Futsal Championship 2023. (Futsal is a football-based game played on a hard court smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors). 11 teams participated from the Mid Ulster area and Waringstown were placed in a very strong group of 6 teams. We started off on the front foot, winning our first two matches before drawing the third game against Dickson PS. Needing to win the last two games, the girls stepped up to a new level, winning comfortably to reach the final against Kings Park PS.
The final was a close run affair with Kings Park taking a very early lead. The heads however, didn’t drop and Waringstown pushed for the equalizer which duly came with 3 minutes left on the clock. Straight from the kickoff, the girls pushed again and were rewarded for their efforts to go 2 - 1 up with only a few minutes to go. Kings Park pushed for the equalizer, but to no avail.
Waringstown PS were crowned champions and will now progress to the Northern Ireland Finals, which will be held later at a venue to be decided.
Mr Brown was very proud of how the girls conducted themselves throughout the tournament and thanked everyone concerned including Mrs McConville who helps out with the football training and the parents who enabled the girls to travel to the venue.
Well done girls!!
