Primary 5 Enjoy A Visit To Parliament Buildings At Stormont

Primary 5 recently had a very enjoyable visit to Parliament Buildings, Stormont.  They were given the opportunity to visit the Great Hall, Assembly Chamber and the Senate Chamber.  The children were able to take part in a debate on 'the advantages/disadvantages of school uniform'.  Everyone took part and contributed to the discussion,  the comments were interesting!  The children were then expected to take their vote on the debate and had to make a choice of 'for' or 'against' by walking through a particular door to be counted.  They thoroughly enjoyed this exercise!  Afterwards the children were then given the opportunity to take part in a voting ballot, four pupils were chosen to represent various laws.  Their job was to convince everyone that their law was the best.  The children were then given a ballot paper from 1 to 4 and were asked to place their vote into a ballot box.  The votes were finally counted and the results announced!!  Mrs Peacocke and Mrs Williamson both agreed that they may have a few budding politicians in Primary 5!  The children enjoyed a picnic and play in the closely located Stormont Park afterwards.  Take a look through our picture gallery to see how the children got on:

Recently both Primary 5 classes enjoyed the "Our City" Young Enterprise day.

The whole day was a most enjoyable experience and the children ended the session by designing and producing their very own city.

Primary 5 Investigate Penguin Blubber!

Primary 5 had great fun completing their topic of Penguins with a Blubber Investigation.

Together they carried out an investigation to identify whether Penguin Blubber actually insulates a Penguin in cold climates.  Each child got to wear a glove which was not insulated in an ice cold bowl of water and then again in a glove insulated with Blubber (lard).  The children compared the results of each glove and concluded that the Penguin's Blubber is definitely a much needed insulation in the cold climate of the Antarctica!

Exciting News Just In For Primary 5 . . .

Primary 5 recently entered a competition through the C2k Newsdesk.  The competition involved the pupils building a character profile on their favourite character from a Novel.  Each pupil completed a profile and uploaded it to the Newsdesk.  Out of over 500 entries 10 winners were announced this morning via the Newsdesk.  Primary 5 are delighted to have 2 winners amongst the 10.  One winner was from Mrs Peacocke's class while the other was from Mrs Williamson's.  Both teachers are delighted with all of the pupils for submitting their work and of course celebrated in the winners success today during a whole class assembly.  The children will receive a visit from a Newsdesk Reporter next week and the two winners will get a Newsdesk goodie bag each.

Congratulations Primary 5!
