P5 Girls Enjoy Extra Curricular Athletics

The Primary 5 girls Athletics Club ended on Thursday with what was a damp afternoon.  This however did not dampen the girls sports spirit!! Everyone really enjoyed the series of lessons on Athletics in Term 3.  Each week almost all girls joined together on the MUGA pitch to develop their skills in running, hurdling, throwing and jumping.  Mrs Williamson, Miss Neill and Mrs Peacocke were very impressed with some of the talent shown by the girls and wish them well as they continue to develop these in Primary 6 and 7. Click on the link below to view the girls in action!

Primary 5 take the Tayto Tour!

Primary 5 have had a fantastic morning at Tayto Castle. They had a tour of the factory, watching the process of the crisps and other corn snacks being made from potato to package. They really enjoyed sampling all of the different products! They were commended by the tour guides on their super behaviour and good manners and left with lots of treats to enjoy at home. Here are some photos of the class meeting Mr Tayto before the tour began.

C2k NewsDesk reporter Amelia visited Primary 5 today with a lovely surprise.  All of the Primary 5 children recently entered the 'Endangered Animal Competition' from the C2k NewsDesk.  Two of our Primary 5 children were amongst the 10 winners.  Amelia was also delighted with all of our entries and told the children they were the only two Primary 5 entries to have won as all the others were from Primary 6 and 7.  There were over 500 entries submitted to the Newsdesk for this competition so Mrs Williamson and Miss Neill are delighted for Waringstown to have picked up two of the Winners!  Our winners were Susannah Gardiner and Miles Stafford Miller, they both received a certificate and NewsDesk goodie bags along with a special NewsDesk Badge.

We have included the two winning entries for you to view using the links below:

Primary 5 Enjoy 'Our City' Young Enterprise Day

Recently both Primary 5 classes enjoyed the "Our City" Young Enterprise day.

The children learnt all about the various components needed to build a city.  They identified a wide variety of buildings and what purpose each had.

The whole day was a most enjoyable experience and the children ended the session by designing and producing their very own city.

Primary 5 Publish Penguin Leaflets

Primary 5 have been busy in class investigating Leaflets.  They looked at a wide variety of leaflets available for places of interest in Northern Ireland.  They discussed the content, colours, text, pictures, photographs and how the overall leaflet is aimed at a specific audience.  The children have been working on drafting and designing their very own leaflet based on the topic of Penguins.  They used the iPads to help them with their research.  They then used Microsoft Publisher to design their leaflets.  The audience for their leaflet is Primary 3 as this year group will visit Belfast Zoo and Primary 5 wish to help prepare them for their visit.  Primary 5 are working on presenting their leaflets to the Primary 3 classes.

Primary 5 SMART Assembly

Primary 5 recently hosted the Safer Internet Day whole school assembly.  Their main theme was 'play your part for a better internet'. They also reminded all of our classes of their E-Safety 'SMART' rules and how to ensure they stay safe online.  The main message for all of the children was that they should never give out their own personal details while online.
