P4 News Reports using Green Screen

P4 have been busy as budding news production teams!  As part of our topic on "Life In the Recent Past" looking at WW2, we investigated the incidents of the Belfast Blitz.  We researched the facts online and from literature. Everyone wrote their own report.  We then looked at news reports today and how these are put together with a production team.  In our groups we worked hard to produce a news script telling the main events of the Belfast Blitz.  When we were happy with our news scripts, we recorded these on our iPads using the green screen app.  We then learned how videos can be modified putting in backgrounds and news photos of the time.  With a little bit of help from our super ICT team and the iMovie app, we added an old newsreel introduction video and our news reports were complete.  We learned a lot, so did our teachers! P4 Trip to Transport Museum

On Tuesday a large bus of very excited P4 children and made our way to the Transport Museum in Cultra.  This was the culmination of our WAU topic on Journeys.  We enjoyed the fact that we could climb over the massive engines, spend time in the cab and look at how they were designed in an age of steam.  We learned a lot about the materials they were made from.  We compared old buses and fire engines to transport today and really enjoyed Titanica where we saw artefacts from White Star Line Company.  We enjoyed our group scavenger hunts throughout the museum, where we found different items as part of the Titanic story.  For some children this was their favourite part.  Next we made our way to the cars through the ages.  We observed sports cars from years gone by and even spotted a De Lorean from "Back to the Future" famously produced in our little country!  We even found the oldest car in the museum built in 1911. FInally we went through the museum of flight with replicas of the Wright FLyer!  A great time was had by all!

P4 Trip to Transport Museum, Cultra

The Primary 4 children are allowed to wear their school tracksuit for their trip tomorrow.

They should also bring a packed lunch in a named plastic bag with a disposable water bottle. They may also bring a little snack in their coat pocket that they may eat on the bus as we travel to the Transport Museum.

Living History Day in P4

Today in P4 the children travelled back in time to experience World War 2.

 

When the children arrived in their wonderful outfits they went straight up to the Muga. They went on an imaginary train journey back to the 1940s and when they arrived at their destination, names were called out and the children went into different groups. These groups then walked down into the school building to take part in rationing, evacuation, air raid activities, craft, investigations and food tasting. They also had the chance to look through our wonderful museum of artifacts, created using items provided by the Council and from many of our own parents, grand parents and great grand parents (THANKYOU ALL SO MUCH!)

 

For break the pupils also had either ham, jam or cheese sandwiches, wrapped in brown paper, and an apple, just like the children of the 1940s.

 

The children also got to watch some cartoons that were made in the time of WW2 and had a sing a long with many war-time songs.

 

The highlight of the day was listening to our guest speaker, who answered numerous questions from our pupils. A huge thankyou to Armagh City, Banbridge, Craigavon Council, to our parent volunteers and to all of our pupils for making this such a fun day.

P4M visited by Newsdesk

P4M had a surprise visit today from Mr David Huntly the editor of C2K’s newsdesk, the electronic information site.  Mr Huntly chatted with us and told us all about how to put together a report.  He also wanted to discover what things P4’s wanted to read articles about.  Mr Huntly then showed us how we can use newsdesk to help with our school topics!  We got to ask him questions about his job and how he became a writer.  We had a great time and learned a lot!  Thank you Mr Huntly for a great morning!

Instructional writing on Pancake Tuesday

P4 enjoyed celebrating the end of our instructional writing topic by compiling delicious recipes for pancakes.  We made sure to include a title with lists of equipment and ingredients.  We then wrote our steps and remembered to add diagrams.  The fun part came when we got to try out our recipes!  We even had a variety of yummy things to decorate our pancakes; chocolate sauce, chocolate buttons, lemon juice and sugar.  What a yummy ending to a fabulous topic!

P4McC Assembly on World Book Day

P4McC were getting Waringstown P.S in the mood for World Book day with their World Book Day Assembly.

First of all we shared with the school all the different types of books that we like to read and how fun books really are.  We got everyone in the mood for World Book Day by sharing some of the amazing and fun Literacy activities we can do on the day! We also reminded everyone in KS1 and FS to dress up as their favourite book character!   We performed a poem “ Magic Keys” all about how books are magic keys to learning!  P4McC then looked at God’s book, the Bible, which helps us know how to live good lives, being kind and helpful to others.  Finally we reminded the school of the importance of helping others and shared our fund raising idea. We are all aware of the refugee crisis and how the lives of many families have been impacted severely as they have had to leave their homes.  This World Book Day as well as celebrating we are going to have a collection for Charlene’s Project to help support the school they are currently supporting for refugee children from Syria, as well as the hundreds of children in Uganda and Guatemala that are enjoying education thanks to this charity. P4McC finished the assembly with a lovely song based on Psalm 119 called “ Your Word” with a beautiful solo by Nicole.  Everyone played their part excellently and promoted the importance of World Book Day while helping others across the world also! In the words of P4McC themselves, “it was so much fun and World Book Day is going to be a GREAT day!“
