Parents of Primary One

Dear parents

We remind you once again that children in Primary One go home early on:

Monday 04 June at 12.30pm.

This enables the school to facilitate next year’s Primary One Induction afternoon.

Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.

Primary 1 Fly To The Sun!

Primary One children recently had a day they will never forget.  Thank you to Pilot Captain Adrian Knott and Cabin Crew member Christine!

The children came to school dressed for a flight to the sun.  They checked in with their passports and luggage.  Christine gave them boarding passes and the children went through security and into the departure lounge.  Captain Knott shared lots of information about aeroplanes and his job before we boarded the aeroplane.

After take off the chijdren relaxed and enjoyed an in flight snack served by Christine and some P1 members of the Cabin Crew.  Captain Knott landed the aeroplane safely and gave us all Log Books and gliders - it was a really special day as you can see from the photographs - enjoy!

Primary One Visit the Butchers!

As part of our Farm Topic, Primary One went to the village butchers to investigate what meat comes from a pig.  Trader D showed the children various pork cuts including a pigs trotter!  We brought some cocktail sausages back to school to cook and eat – they were delicious!

Thank you Trader D and thank you also to Mr McKittrick who accompanied us on our walk to ensure we crossed the road safely.  We enjoyed every part of this investigation!

A Police Officer Visits Primary 1

The Police Officer came to visit the boys and girls in Primary 1 today.  She taught us two very important numbers to phone if we need the police.  She said we must phone 999 if there is an Emergency and we must phone 101 if we need the Police but it is not an Emergency!  The Police Officer showed us the different items she has on her belt and we loved when she handcuffed our friends.  Thank you for coming to visit us Police Officer and for teaching us so much about your special job and thank you for keeping us safe!

Primary One Enjoy A Visit From The Paramedics!

As part of their 999 emergency services topic P1 had a special visit from a Paramedic.

The children had great fun exploring the ambulance. They tried on helmets and coats and even got the chance to sit on the stretcher.

Their highlights included going up on the tail lift, seeing the flashing lights and hearing the siren. Seeing a real ambulance first hand helped them to produce super pictures of ambulances using the correct colours and markings when they returned to class. Enjoy looking at the children’s experiences!

Primary 1 Enjoy A Visit From Baby Poppy

Primary 1 are currently engaged in a Baby Topic. To help us with our topic we had a visit from beautiful baby Poppy and her lovely Mummy, Heather.  The children discovered lots of new information about babies and learnt just how much a baby needs looked after and cared for.  Heather was able to show the children a variety of items that Baby Poppy needs.

Thank you so much Heather and Poppy for coming to visit Primary 1.  We loved having you both!

Primary 1 Bulb Investigation

The Primary One children observed Hyacinth bulbs.  The teacher cut the bulbs in half and the children looked at them using magnifying glasses.  They then planted two bulbs - one in a bulb jar with water and one in the soil.  They put them both into the dark to grow roots and shoots.

The Primary One children will watch how their bulbs grow and turn into beautiful Hyacinth Flowers in time for Spring!  We will have to have patience though!

Primary 1 Think Road Safety!

Our school Crossing Patrol Officer Mrs Hall came into the Primary 1 classrooms to teach the children about the importance of Road Safety!  We fondly call her the 'Lollipop Lady' because her big sign is in the shape of a lollipop.  We listened really well and learnt about her special fluorescent uniform with reflectors which she wears so cars can see her better.  She reminded us to hold an adults hand and not to cross the road until she walks out and stops the traffic.  She will call us when it is safe for us to cross.  We must remember to walk in front of her and always say 'Thank you'

We then went out into the Primary 3 playground to the 'pretend road' and practised what we had learnt.  Mrs Hall was delighted with how well we remembered the Road Safety rules.  Thank you Mrs Hall for doing such a good job and keeping ALL the children of WPS safe!
