CONGRATULATIONS to our School 'Eco' Council, along with staff, parents and numerous outside agencies, who have worked really hard over the past two years to improve our school grounds and heighten the awareness of environmental issues. This morning, staff and pupils met two ECO School assessors. After a chat with our Councillors, a walk around and our assessment, we were delighted to be informed that we are now officially an ECO SCHOOL!

2016-17 School 'Eco' Council

Pupils from last year's School 'Eco' Council also had a huge part to play in the build up and preparation for 'going for green'

We've got our first Green Tree Award

We have just received our first and second Green Tree Awards (Bronze and Silver Levels) with the Woodland Trust through our work with NIFSA in becoming a Forest School and various other activities we have been doing in regards to becoming an Eco School. These have included visiting woodlands, reducing CO2 emissions through our 'turn off, switch off' week and promoting sustainable travel through our work with Travelwise NI during 'Walk to School' week. We have also ordered new trees to be planted on our school grounds in the coming months.

Well done everyone at Waringstown Primary School. Now its time to work towards our Gold Award (which isn't too far away!)

Well done School 'Eco' Council

Our School 'Eco' Council have been acknowledged for all their hard work this year with two noteworthy achievements. First of all, after showing the judges around our school, we were Highly Commended in regards to the Tidy Schools Awards. Also, in regards to becoming an Eco School, we are now at silver status. Well done to all of our Councillors in leading us forward in our 'eco' journey, and all our pupils and staff for taking part in all the competitions and initiatives.

We've Done It!

Waringstown Primary School has been successful in achieving the Fair Aware Award by the Fairtrade Foundation. This has taken several years to come to fruition with a target group (Primary 6), being taught about Fairtrade and completing many Fairtrade tasks. These included, data collections, surveys and much hard work by the pupils. The school can now boast of being a Fair Aware Fairtrade School for the very first time. Our certificate arrived in school on the 16th September and runs for a full year. During this time the Primary 6 teachers are hoping to further develop Fairtrade to other classes throughout the school. Well done to all involved!

School Council's first achievement

The School Council met recently held their first official meeting. Along with many other items discussed and looked at, they completed an Environmental Review of Waringstown Primary School. This Environmental Review has helped to create an Action Plan for moving forward in becoming an Eco-School. Due to the work the School Council have done, our application for the Bronze Eco-Schools Certificate has been successful.

Well done School Council!

Please see it attached and proudly on display on our 'Celebration Wall' to the right of the front doorway to the school.
