New Life Choir Visit Waringstown Primary School

Today in Waringstown Primary School we had a really special treat.  The New Life Choir from Uganda came in to host a very special assembly filled with African song and dance.

A small choir of very energetic children performed lots of songs for a very eager audience. The Waringstown pupils and staff were blown away by the amazing lively songs and the vibrant performance from the choir. Some pupils and staff from Waringstown even got to dance and sing along. It certainly was an enjoyable morning.

The children from the choir stayed with us after assembly for a little while and joined our KS2 children on the Top Pitch for break-time play. The children were welcomed as new friends and a memorable break-time was had.

If you wish to catch their full performance they will be at Waringstown Presbyterian Church this evening at 7pm tonight.

Below is a video with some highlights from the performance.

GodmodeX P6 & 7 Gaming Evening

Wow! What a night in Waringstown Primary School for the P6 and P7 children.

GodmodeX arrived in school and set up a fun evening for all.  They set up Playstation 4 consoles, Xbox one Consoles and a WiiU Console.  The children got to play a wide variety of games including FIFA, Mario Cart and Just Dance.  Everyone had a really fun evening taking part in the games and competing in various tournaments.

The night for the children ended with a talk from God Modex on the Theme of treasure. The parents also had a really valuable talk on internet and gaming safety from God Modex who provided really practical information and steps which parents can take to ensure internet and computer games safety in the home.

Thank you GodmodeX hopefully we will see you back again next year.

In order to complete this new grant application, we need parent input, so could we ask you to take a few minutes of your time to complete a short survey. Simply click the link provided.

GodmodeX Internet Safety Evening Wednesdy 08 February 2017

This year in school we are offering an exciting opportunity for our P6 and 7 children along with their parents!

On Wednesday 08 February, the day after Safer Internet Day, an organisation called GodmodeX are coming into school for an evening computer gaming session with up to 100 of our children.

The children will play various, age appropriate, computer games and will have an Internet Safety talk during the evening. There will be a Christian epilogue at the end of the night for the children taken by a representative of CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship).

The night also has a session for parents, where GodmodeX will give an Internet and gaming safety talk. This will be an informative session and will provide practical and useful content to help you, as parents and guardians, keep your children safe from the dangers they may encounter online.  The parents’ session will take place in the half hour before the children finish their session and when it is over, the children will join their parents to go home.

A timetable for the evening is below:

6:30 pm      -        Children arrive back into school to work with GodmodeX

8:00pm       -        GodmodeX Parents’ Gaming / Internet Safety talk

8:15pm       -        CEF Epilogue with Children

8:30pm       -        Both sessions end. Children go home with parents

The best thing is that the whole evening is completely free of charge to our children and parents.  However, the night will be on a first come, first served basis and we are strictly limited to 100 children. Therefore, we ask that you return the slip on the attached note to Mr Somerville ASAP to avoid disappointment.

Digital Leaders Assembly

Today in School, we had a very special assembly. Eric McCleery from iTeach was in to announce our new Digital Leaders!

Back before Christmas, we held an open application for any P6 and P7 pupils wishing to apply for the position of a Digital Leader. Lots and lots of children applied and the competition was fierce for one of the 10 privileged positions.

The Digital Leaders found out that they had been successful last week, when Eric came to work with them and begin their training. They were set the task of making a trailer in iMovie to announce themselves during the presentation assembly today. The Digital Leaders worked hard and produced a superb and funny trailer which you can view below.

They each received an iGenius T-Shirt, Digital Leaders Badge, a lanyard and a certificate.

The Digital Leaders Team will be responsible for problem solving with iPads, working with teachers to help them with lessons and helping fellow pupils to use the ipads.  It is a big responsibility and we know they will be great at the job.The teachers are very much looking forward to having them help with iPad lessons in school.

Congratulations to all the Digital Leaders and a big thank you to Eric and iTeach for all the goodies they provided for the Digital Leaders.
